I read somewhere that most people can recognize dozens of companies' logos, but can only name a few types of local birds. In the spring of 2011, I began watching the migrating warblers and other birds from my window. This led me to ask how many bird species - and which ones - I see in a year.

I know I've been writing 'chickadee', and there are more than one type - ours are black-capped chickadees.
